EXCLUSIVE: National Security Leaders Urge Congress To Investigate FBI Over Security Clearances In Wake Of Durham Report ~ June 19, 2023

A group of former National Security leaders sent a letter Thursday to House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan and House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer in the wake of Special Counsel John Durham’s report, calling on them to hold oversight hearings regarding FBI practices on issuing and revoking security clearances.The Daily Caller first obtained a copy of the letter, sent by members of the America First Policy Institute. In the letter, the former National Security leaders mention the Durham Report, which found the FBI used “uncorroborated intelligence” when launching its investigation into former President Donald Trump and his alleged ties to Russia.The letter was sent by former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg (Ret.), former U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Robert Wilkie, former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, former Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, former Chief of Staff and Executive Secretary for the National Security Council Fred Fleitz and former Deputy National Security Advisor Steve Yates. The former National Security leaders call on Jordan and Comer to hold “immediate oversight hearings on the policies and criteria employed by the FBI for issuing, assessing, and revoking security clearances.”

“Such hearings are necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in our law enforcement agencies. Given the profound questions surrounding these actions, it is critical that your respective committees examine the FBI’s policies and practices in issuing and revoking security clearances,” they continue in the letter.

The group also proposes having FBI Director Christopher Wray testify under oath. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Jim Jordan Invites John Durham To Testify After DOJ Releases Report)“To fully understand the FBI’s procedures on these matters, we believe Director Wray should be put under oath and testify before your respective committees,” they write in the letter. “The Director’s testimony would provide invaluable clarity and help shed light on the FBI’s policies, procedures, and commitment to maintaining the integrity of security clearance processes and ensure individuals inclined toward the politicization and weaponization of the levers of government are prevented from doing so again.”
