Leo is courageous. A queen. A king. Regal and resplendent. A magnanimous leader governing the heart and ruled by the sun. When we choose to lead with benevolence, scarcity fails.

The new moon in Leo arrives on July 31st, opening us up to a season that amplifies themes of generosity, abundance, and optimism. This is the kind of astrology that rapidly expands our potential and demands that we share our good fortune. The new moon reminds us of the expansiveness only possible when we know how to celebrate the wins of those that surround us.

Success is to be shared.

This new moon is calling us all to be the leaders we need in the world. It reminds us that love in action leaves no room for supremacy to fester. Our soul’s purpose is so much grander than the small-mindedness of greed and exclusion. The little egos among us that make up inhumane laws and evil chants of injustice to keep their privilege in place need to be consistently and diligently interrupted. Day in. Day out.

As the new moon in Leo resets itself, Mercury also stations direct. This is a lovely gift after the emotional wringer that Eclipse Season put us through. The rest of the astrology of the lunar cycle asks us to live a little more fully then we might. Breaking with the traditions that keep us subdued is how we can unlock our creative currency.

August 2

Venus in Leo square Uranus in Taurus, both at 6°

While today’s astrology might shake up our relationship dynamics, a deeper truth about our intimacy issues comes loose. This astrology reminds us that taking risks and breaking the molds of convention is what it takes to feel alive. Connections may be disrupted, but any truth about them that comes to consciousness is actually our good fortune. In the coming days, Venus makes one of the best aspects it can, a trine to Lady Luck Jupiter on August 8th. The challenges we encounter quickly turn into great gifts that we get to unpack and unwrap over the next couple of weeks.

August 7

Exuberant doesn’t even describe today’s set up. The sun and Jupiter, both in their own sign, make a trine to one another. This is a stellar setup. As Venus and Jupiter slowly build up to making contact in the heavens, we can make many things multiply here on earth. Be selective though. Miracle grow isn’t good for every garden.

As Jupiter stations direct, the two most helpful planets in the sky team up to bring us an abundance of beauty, connection, and an intense desire for pleasure-filled pursuits. This is an astrological mark of fortune, best used when you share yours. Generosity makes more of everything.

August 11

Jupiter stations direct at 14° Sagittarius

Mercury enters Leo, where it remains until August 29, 2019

Uranus stations retrograde at 6° of Taurus. Remains retrograde until January 10, 2020

Today two planets change direction, signaling a shift. Out-of-the-blue-windfalls may accompany it, some extremely fortunate, some a little disruptive, all exciting in their own way.

As Jupiter stations direct it signals the last quarter of its cruise through Sagittarius. We only have until December to work with this powerful placement. Now that it is direct, that work is done with much greater ease. The part of our chart that contains Sagittarius will benefit from it the most.

As Uranus stations retrograde, it slowly overturns the terra it has traversed while in Taurus. Today pulls focus on what is generative (Jupiter stationing direct) and what is unpredictable (Uranus stationing retrograde). Those of you with planets between 2°-6° of Taurus will feel this the most. As the deity of great upheaval goes back and forth over this small piece of ground it leaves no stone unturned and no talent latent. Be prepared to put your resources to work and they’ll pleasantly surprise (if not shake up) your world.

August 13

Sun conjunct Venus in Leo at 20°

For the next couple of days, Venus travels with the sun, helping us heal aspects of our identity. Feelings attractive is an inside job. The more you can love on yourself, the more space you leave for others to do the same. Focus on pleasure in all your endeavors. This isn’t necessarily a nose to the grindstone aspect and it may have you yearning for more free time to enjoy life, so grant yourself some if and when you can.

Aries & Aries Rising

To the best of my ability, I make room for joy. I defend my right to it. I guard it against being overtaken with the many distractions of the world. I know that being able to be playful is a privilege – one that fear, insecurity, and sorrow swallow when given the chance. There have been many times, a million moments, where I couldn’t access what felt good. When I’ve had to spend all of my energy surviving. When I was worn out by just trying to get through the day. Without a firm foundation, it’s hard to feel abundant. Without a place to land, it’s more challenging to help the good things in my life grow into their potential. Without knowing the places and spaces where I am valued, it’s hard to know where to root.

This full moon acts as an exclamation point on the area of our chart that contains Libra. With this unusual double feature, April’s full moon ties into the themes of March. What peaked for you last month wasn’t the full story; this week’s full moon fleshes out the plot lines, making its point known. Full moons are moments in the lunar cycle where something has peaked. As the sun wanders through these pastures, little earthquakes give way to larger ones. Change is afoot, and those with important points and planets in (especially the early degrees of) Taurus will be challenged to change in ways they’ve never been. April 22^nd Sun conjunct Uranus in Taurus at 2° Today’s astrology highlights the longer-range changes that Taurus is going through. The next 7 years sees Uranus transiting through Taurus, and every planet that now roams through the bull’s eye meets this maker. Uranus is here to work the fields in a much different way than they have been thus far. Innovating how we handle the resources that we have access to makes all the difference under these skies. April 24^th Pluto stations retrograde at 23° Capricorn This year, Pluto stations retrograde next to the south node. This gives the transit an extra emphasis on purging, releasing, and being relieved of what isn’t good for our spiritual growth. Pluto will spend the next 6 months moving a mere 3°, stationing direct at 20° Capricorn on October 2, 2019. That means if you have any planets or points between 20°-23° of Capricorn (Aries, Cancer, or Libra)they are receiving a very thorough investigation from Pluto. This Lordess of the Underworld has dirt on all of us, though. Venus Retrograde: October 5th – November 16th from 10° Scorpio to 25° of Libra

To the ancients each planet was seen as a goddess or god. Unlike the other lights in the sky, the planets moved of their own accord against the backdrop of the fixed stars, signaling to us times of prosperity, retrieval, strife, and victory.

Venus’s retrograde pattern captivated the imaginations of the ancients. The Sumerians saw the bright star as the Goddess Inanna, protectress of sex-workers, goddess of love, erotic energy, and the Queen of Heaven and Earth.

During her retrograde cycle, she goes from bright evening star to invisible to bright morning star. Slowly disappearing from view as she retrogrades back into a conjunction with the sun, Venus was thought to be in the underworld during her time of invisibility. As she stations direct, she reappears as a bright morning star, triumphantly returning to the heavens. Venus/Inanna’s visual transformations were made into a great descent myth that mirrors our own psychological process of death, rebirth, and transformation.

Venus is currently in Scorpio, one of the signs she has the greatest difficulty in. Here, Venus is more attuned to the wounds, betrayals, and historic assault of the feminine. Those that identify as women, femme, or express any amount of feminine energy, know the patriarchy’s twisted obsession, hatred, and fear of Venus.

The results of damage done by patriarchal violence is amplified during this planet’s shift.

This once-every-18-month retrograde cycle teaches us much about our limits, our heart-ache, and the process of purging unhealthy relationship patterns from our systems. As Venus deepens into the retrograde she will reveal the massive shifts that all our relationships are undergoing.

In Scorpio, Venus is in exact opposition to one of her home signs, Taurus. Taurus builds stable structures. Loves consistency. Never lets go. In her opposite sign, Venus in Scorpio hungers after the transformative processes that bring the truth. Deaths and rebirths are a necessary part of the life cycle of any organism.

Like diamonds buried deep within, a just world is built through the pressure of injustice crumbling. The systems of harm that have ruled this world for too long are failing. The force of this process will ultimately lead to our transformation if we can stay with it.

Today’s new moon in Libra is square Pluto, and aspect that the sun will stay in until October 11th. The new moon asks us to take our grief and turn it into action. It asks us how we might get on the right side of the human story each and every day. It reminds us that every single act of justice adds up when we make it a constant and considerate practice.

Mercury enters Scorpio, there until October 30^th

As Mercury cozies up to the now retrograde Goddess, Venus and Mercury get into some intense pillow talk. Here, Mercury deepens our communications. Uninterested in the run of the mill niceties, Mercury in Scorpio makes a bee-line for the truth.

October 10^th

Mercury in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus, both at 1°

Venus in Scorpio squares Mars in Aquarius, both at 10°

Definitely one of the more difficult signatures of the lunar cycle, today’s astrology is unpredictable.

As Mercury makes its first steps into Taurus, it comes up against an abrupt opposition to Uranus in Taurus. Like a slap to the senses, this combo comes bringing news we previously knew nothing about. From left field, information comes flying at us. Remembering that in so many situations we need not respond right away can save us in these times. Know when you are within your rights to take a breath. Take a moment. Take a look at your options before you react to what is demanding you do.

Tearing into our more sensitive spots, on the same day, the square between Venus and Mars feels a little more vicious than is necessary. Astrologers of the past might have called this the ultimate fight between men and women, but we can look at it with more nuance and less of a gender binary than a “battle of the sexes”. We know that patriarchy is upheld by all genders. We know that white supremacy, colonization, and heteronormativity are intrinsically woven into the fabric of its functionality. We know that as we deconstruct one aspect of this system, we must do so to all the others.

On a personal level, Venus and Mars in battle feels unfair in some of our more personal connections. Venus comes looking for togetherness, Mars for separation. Feelings get hurt or already are. Try as we might to avoid it, in astrology like this we can cause a wound to reopen. We’ll have to revisit the scenario later for any possible make-ups or confirmations of break-ups.

October 11^th

Sun in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn, both at 18°

This aspect has been building since the new moon on October 8th, and peaks today. It gives the entire week a tension, intensity, and depth that refuses to look away from what is normally swept under the rug. We might find ourselves enmeshed in incredibly difficult circumstances, unable to get out without a thorough investigation of our part in the process or without getting dirty as a result of going through such a deep dig into our subconscious.

October 12^th

Mercury in Scorpio sextiles Saturn in Capricorn, both at 3°

From October 10th (when Mercury opposed Uranus) to the 22nd, Mercury is on overdrive. Contacting a bevy of planets with vastly different agendas, the themes of these days will shift quickly, offering a multitude of messages ranging from incredibly affirming, to caustic, to transformational. Today’s transit puts us in good celestial company. As Mercury moves from a supportive sextile to Saturn, to a conjunction with Venus, we get the messages we need to succeed. Here, Mercury confirms what is working, helps us make solid plans, and finds ways to tip us off about the things we need to commit to.

Mercury conjuncts Venus at 8° of Scorpio

Working with Venus retrograde, Mercury receives the messages that Venus may have held secret until now. Today is full of mixed messages. As Mercury gets inspired and uplifted by the creative cocktails that Neptune pours freely, it also gets some fighting words delivered via Mars. August 11th

2:58 AM PT – New Moon/Partial Solar Eclipse at 18° of Leo

The last of these Lions, there will be no more solar eclipses in Leo for some time. Save for one lunar eclipse in Leo in January 2019, these beasts are nearing the end of their hunt with us.

Eclipses come in prides. Groupings. Happening every 6 months, eclipses will occur in (mostly) the same signs for roughly 2 years. The first eclipse in Leo happened in February 2017, the last in January 2019.

Take a look back at what you have developed over the last year and a half. You’ll most likely notice that you have become more aware of your hunger, desire, and need to self-express, create, and infuse your life with more honest expressions of your nature, talents, and gifts.

Leo rules the sun. The sun’s light is eclipsed during a solar eclipse. The sun is symbolic of our life purpose in astrology. It is our Essential Self. When solar eclipses occur, the shadow aspect of ourselves and our lives is revealed. In Leo, this shadow has to do with our ego. Our image. Our inflation.

What gets in the way of living out our life’s purpose must be identified. Interrogated. Deconstructed. Repurposed for its energetic value. No part of self ever need be destroyed, but our unhelpful behaviors and self-sabotaging ways need to be composted. Broken down so that the energetic value inherent in them can be used more intelligently.

This solar eclipse in Leo helps us discover the parts of our personalities that betray our best intentions. The defenses that we unconsciously erect that inhibit opportunity from flowing to us and through us. The envy within us that constricts abundance from befriending us. The scarcity mentality that our egos think is protecting us but is really just impeding our ability to grow into and through the challenges presented.

Ruled by the heart, Leo needs love. Appreciation. Attention. The same is true for aspects of self that are suffering, cause our suffering, or only know how to suffer. We cannot reject our less attractive, less accomplished, or less socially acceptable selves. That only strengthens their feeling of being unworthy. It only strengthens any inner rebellion brewing. It only gives us more reason to self-sabotage.

We must invite these aspects of self in. Into a space of no-nonsense loving kindness. Into a paradigm of compassion and accountability. Into our conscious awareness so that they have a place to rest, heal, and reveal the true energetic value that they possess.

August 12th

Mars Rx (re)enters Capricorn

In Capricorn until September 10th, Mars will have spent 3 of the 12 months of 2018 in this sign. With Saturn and Pluto also in Capricorn (and also currently retrograde), the area of your chart that contains Capricorn is being treated to a thorough review. Having Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in the same sign, or part of our chart, is an intensive in taking responsibility for our part of any problem, situation, or circumstance we find ourselves in. For some this may feel like breaking point, a time where we have taken on a little too much, a time to say no to new projects for the moment.

As Mars reviews the part of sky it moved through back in mid-May 2018, we too get to return to what we were doing then. Whatever we were working through is now back to be re-worked, re-viewed, and reintegrated into our lives. We’ve learned. We’ve grown. We’ve made the adjustments that were necessary.

With the aesthetics of adoration to adorn ourselves with. With the last eclipse complete, and Mercury now beginning to move forward, we are given the chance to digest an aspect of the lessons learned over July and August.

This year’s onset of Virgo Season (beginning August 22nd) is gifted with an auspicious offering from Saturn and Uranus. Forming a trine to both (exact on August 25th), the sun’s first couple of days in Virgo exemplify the innovation that we are able to implement when we work at mastering the form of any given thing. This aspect creates an opportunity for us to take what we have already worked on and use it in new and groundbreaking ways. The wheel needs no re-invention, it just needs to be put to modern use.

This blessing is bestowed especially upon all those whose birthday falls between the 22nd and the 26th of August. This year you have extra encouragement to experiment with what works in your life and some ease putting it to use.

Aries & Aries Rising

No one person, place, or worldly position can create a life of meaning for me. I do not look outside for what can only be fulfilled within. I do not try to get love, praise, or power from the world. I look for ways in which I can put more love into the structures I enter. I wonder how I might put more praise upon what is deserving of it but hardly gets it. The more I honor what inspires me, the more inspiration can naturally flow into the forms that I am constructing.

I know that healing my relationship to myself is what transforms every aspect of my world. What I want to experience materially is a reflection of what I want to express energetically. I let myself dream of big, beautiful futures, but I prioritize the feeling of well-being ahead of any material gifts I am hoping to create. Without it, not much is worth much.

Love is the cornerstone of my empire. Nothing brilliant gets built without it. Nothing magnificent exists in opposition to it. Nothing about my success is pleasurable unless I view it as the essence of my fortune. I am here to learn how to shine while experiencing the sheer joy of creating my life, my work, and my world each and every day.

I believe that I have the right to exist as I am, at this time, and in this way. I am made in the image of my maker, even if too few recognize it. Even when the world may have forgotten, disappeared, diminished, and disavowed itself from me and my kind.

Butterflies are horrific creatures when you catch them mid-metamorphosis. If we focus on the gruesome stages of our growth we’ll never find our wings. I remind myself and others of the importance of persistence and the rewards of determination.

I am developing a deeper relationship to myself. A more honest one. A more forgiving one. A more relentless one. I am willing to witness the parts of myself that I might not be proud of. What feels unloved, misunderstood, or undervalued within me will persist the more I resist it. With this eclipse I rededicate myself to understanding the wealth trapped, embedded, and held by these complicated queens within.

Being a leader of my life demands that I do as much reflecting as acting, as much introspection as creation, as much meditation as interrupting the world when needed. I’m here to build with all that I have been given. I am here to channel the innovative solutions that are seeking to move through me. What I build is made more powerful by those that share it with me. What I create is made more meaningful by those that hold it with me. What I desire to make manifest is fueled by those that are able to dream alongside me.

Getting myself in the most resonant social circles is the greatest growth enhancer I can offer myself right now. Making an effort to show up for the causes that are close to my heart strengthens its ability to give and receive love. Investing my energy in the spaces built for me and my community empowers me, reminding me of what is possible when we come together. The issues that I work on with others allow for a more honest relationship between us. The issues that need more time to resolve themselves are given the space that they need. I honor the rhythms of my relationships and know that a well-timed pause can clarify, heal, and help a lot.

This year has taught me that no dream is too vast, no desire too outlandish, no yearning too tall for me to reach. This year I have learned that it is my duty to expand as well as deepen. To explore as well as to invest. To include as well as to protect. This year has asked me to open the parts of my heart that wanted to stay closed for business. Open my mind to ideas that would force me to outgrow my own comfort zones. Open myself to versions of my life that I never dreamed would feel like home.

Saturday’s eclipse asks me what I need to offer to my profession. What I personally possess that might help move the needle. What I dream of being able to offer the field that I most want to impact.

What I am beginning now will grow over the next six months. I confidently pour my energy into what I want to bloom and become. I spend time developing the projects that most reflect my values. The projects that recharge my batteries. The projects that realign me with what helps me feel alive. I don’t worry about what others have done at this professional point. I don’t worry about what others think I should do at this particular juncture. I don’t focus on what should have happened already. I focus all of my personal potency, magic, and creative powers towards what feels like personal and professional freedom. I envision myself in the spaces, situations, and circumstances where I will shine brightly and believe fully in the power of that kind of alignment.

I remember to look at my current situation through a long-term lens. I know that not everything begins or ends with what is taking place now. I know that whatever is coming up for healing or for understanding will be used as part of a long-term strategy session for my life.

My success lies within my ability to get what I can out of the problems that come about. My success lies within the philosophy that I frame my problems within. My success is dependent on my ability to find the meaning in all the moments of my life, whether celebratory or stopping me in my tracks.

Bumps along my path are an important part of understanding how to tread it. How to hold my heart through the rougher spots. How to help myself make sense of what feels unfair, unhelpful, or unjust.

What I am learning through the issues I face at work will help me to create better containers for future projects. What comes up around money, assets, or resources is sure to connect me to some sore spots, but as I untangle the personal from the financial, I get clearer on the ways in which I can take back my power, give others their issues to hold for themselves, and find ways to lift up the truth of any situation. I am here to work on what matters and to minimize the drama of what impedes me from doing so.

With extra emphasis placed on my endurance, well-placed efforts, and ability to be dedicated to the projects that refuel me, I have no regrets about the time and energy that I put into all I am working on. This moment is one that teaches me about the impact of directing my energy. The power of no regrets. The importance of taking my time to make the decisions right for me.

There’s no need to rush a decision, but once I know what I need to do I waste not an ounce of my energy in doubt about it.

Saturday’s eclipse helps me to understand the most important collaborations currently in my life. I know that partnering successfully is dependent on all parties being clear about the terms and conditions of agreements made. The more I understand what it is I have to offer, and want to offer, to those I am working with, the clearer I am about how to do so. The less energy I waste on worrying about what isn’t mine to give, the better I can perform. The less energy I waste on trying to be, give, or get something that isn’t mine, the more proficiently I can accomplish my tasks. The less energy I offer to situations that aren’t asking, looking or appreciative, the more I have to give the projects that awaken, support and encourage my growth.

Aquarius & Aquarius Rising

My relationships are portals of profound transformation. As they need more from me, I am challenged to give more to myself. As they demand a deeper connection to me, I am challenged to forge a deeper connection to myself. What they need me to give to them, I commit to giving to myself in equal, if not greater, measure.

I am only as good of a partner to others as I can be to myself.

I listen closely to those that are closest to me. I listen to myself as I take in what they are communicating. I know that whatever their messages evoke within me is mine to sort through, sort out, and seek the meaning of. Those that test me the most right now are most likely bringing me potent lessons for my growth and my getting it together.

Time spent sorting through the feelings I have will bring me the insight I need. None of this work is wasted. Each reaction that gets set off within me is an energetic engine light signaling what within me needs tending to. If I don’t take a moment to do a little repair, the damage could be much more than I am able to bear.

I honor Saturday’s solar eclipse by clearing any energetic clutter that has piled up in my committed partnerships. I want to be able to build and bring into being whatever these unions are capable of creating so I do my part in preparing them, loving them, and listening to their needs.

The more room I make for inspiration, the more of it arrives. With ease. With greater clarity, specificity, and direction. The more I work with this gift, the more it is strengthened and able to point me in directions with astounding precision.

I’m here to challenge myself to reach new heights, experience new depths, and decide, at every moment, to radically embrace my gifts, finding all the ways in which I can share them with the world.
