Stellar Prepares to Launch Protocol 20 This February; Here’s What to Expect Post-Launch – February 18, 2024
————————————————————
By:Olivia Brook
The Stellar community is preparing for a major network upgrade to introduce Version 20 of the Stellar network protocol. The upgrade is expected to transform the Stellar blockchain by introducing innovative features to the platform. In the long term, the upgrade could trigger an increase in market interest and consequently boost adoption for the Stellar ecosystem.
The upgrade is especially significant for Stellar’s future as it will trigger a switch from Protocol 19 to Protocol 20. Voting for Protocol 20 is scheduled to begin on February 20th.
Protocol 20 will introduce smart contracts to the Stellar Blockchain network, a move that is promising for both the network and the XLM altcoin. Protocol 20 will come with Soroban, a smart contract platform integrated into the Stellar network. Soroban, a wasm-based smart contract platform, is designed to be built-to-scale, batteries-included, and developer-friendly.
It is worth noting that although Soroban works well with Stellar, it does not require the blockchain to function and can be utilized by other blockchains and permissions ledgers.
On the 20th of February, validators will cast their votes, and once approved, Stellar will make the shift from Protocol 19 to Protocol 20.

Validators will go on to deploy a phased approach to slowly and effectively increase capacity for Soroban transactions. This will allow Soroban to monitor the impact of smart contract functionality on the network.
Here’s what to expect after Protocol 20 goes live
The aftermath of the upgrade is promising for the Stellar ecosystem as adoption of smart contact has continued to increase. According to market data, the smart contracts market size accounted for $187 million in 2022 and is “projected to achieve a market size of USD 1,417 Million by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 22.8% from 2023 to 2032.”
As the adoption of smart contract technology continues to grow, blockchain-running smart contracts could benefit from the technology’s features, such as efficiency, security, and immutability. Adoption for Stellar could also trickle down to the price value of its native token XLM.
Market experts are also convinced that smart contracts will bridge the gap between the Crypto/Blockchain industry and other existing traditional industries.
Key players expect smart contracts to become a standard part of the finance, healthcare, legal, and supply chain management industry. This form of mainstream adoption could favour smart contract blockchains like Stellar by solidifying their position in the real world.

When you draw the Water card, it becomes evident how you are perceived by others – as emotional, adaptable, and deep. This perception is not incorrect, it merely indicates the energy you put out into the world and how it touches the hearts of those around you. This card serves as an affirmation of your innate ability to control situations, even when circumstances appear chaotic, much like water, which can be both peaceful and turbulent in nature.
Water, as a Moon Card, attests to your capability to explore the emotional depths of any situation and understand what is not explicitly stated. It symbolizes your willingness to adapt, like water changing its form based on its container, adjusting to the circumstances and thereby being a source of strength and comfort for those around you. You are seen as someone who has the strength of character, the emotional depth to empathize, understand, and adapt, providing stability and assurance in emotionally loaded circumstances. Just as water nourishes the earth, your emotional understanding and adaptability provide comfort and assurance to people around you.
The image in the Water card features a woman controlling water at her will. The swirling water around her is a symbolic representation of her emotional control and adaptability. It suggests the depths to which you dive deep into your emotions, and your ability to adapt to any situation. People see you as someone with versatility and enormous strength, who is not afraid to confront and understand her emotions and those of others. You symbolize comfort in chaos and strength in sensitivity.
Your free-spirited nature, like that of water, allows you to flow freely with the tides of life, overcoming challenges and obstacles with grace. You morph to fit into every situation, aiding others to do the same, teaching by example that there is strength in adaptability and emotional consciousness. Your heart is boundless; you filter through the experiences of life like water filters through stones, gracefully adapting to every situation.
Breathe The Power Within You
The Water card encourages you to tap into your emotional depth and adaptable nature more. You are urged to dive deeper into your feelings and share your emotional acumen with others. Your adaptability can make a significant difference in your life as well as in the lives of those around you. Being open to your authentic self and the fluidity of your emotions can be a powerful tool to support those around you and to create positive impacts.
While contemplating on the Water card, ask yourself these significant questions: Who in your life has most been affected by your empathetic and adaptable nature? How do you channel your deeply emotional understanding into your actions that help others? Can you be more open to using your intuitive abilities to navigate through situations? Is there a situation around you that can benefit from your empathy and adaptability?
What Water Means for You Today
The Water card signifies that your emotional depth and adaptability will play a significant role today. This could be a chance to make a difference in someone’s life- to provide support or show kindness to a loved one. You are being reminded of your immense strength to thrive in the face of adversities like a relentless current of a river, carving its course. Furthermore, in acknowledging and owning how others perceive you, it becomes easier to harness these qualities and use them more effectively.
————————————————————-
When the Obelisk appears in your reading, it signifies that you are perceived as durable, awe-inspiring, and influential. Like the enduring stone monument, you stand tall and unyielding, leaving a significant and lasting impression on others. Your actions and decisions impact your immediate environment profoundly and ripple outward—touching those far away from you.
The Obelisk is a splendid sight to behold, positioned high in the night sky. It is a golden, cracked, interdimensional gateway, drawing the eye to the man who stands before it, gazing up from the apex of a mountain. This image speaks to you, reflecting both your resilience and the awe you inspire in others. Appearing this way, the individual embodies the same endurance and influence that you possess. The golden hue indicates a valued treasure—the respect and admiration that people have for you.
Your energy is powerful and infectious, urging those around you to raise their game and strive for excellence. Your enduring strength serves as an inspiration to all, allowing them to push past their self-imposed boundaries and eclipse their personal bests. You may not realize the extent of your influence, but drawing the Obelisk card today reminds you of the power you possess.
The cracks resplendent on the Obelisk are not just marks of breakage but signs of survival—testament to the trials you’ve experienced and overcome. They hint at your resilience, your capacity to endure, and the influence you’ve garnered from overcoming these trials. Therefore, don’t hide your cracks—they are proof of the successful battles you’ve fought, the resilience you’ve displayed, and the strong character you’ve built. Your resilience is reflected in the Obelisk card as it stands, fractured yet powerful.
Your influence, much like the Obelisk, is far-reaching and omnipresent, inspiring countless individuals not only in your immediate circle but far beyond. People view you as a leader, an anchor, someone who remains steadfast amid the harshest weather. Just like the man gazing up at the Obelisk, people look up to you for guidance, finding a beacon of strength and courage in your unwavering determination.
Make Your Influence Count
The appearance of this card in your reading implicates that you should leverage your influence to make a positive difference. Consider the good you could do if you fully realized and nurtured your inherent power and endurance. How might you use these traits to benefit others? Are there changes you wish to bring about in your community, in your relationships, or even in the wider world?
When you draw the Obelisk, ponder these questions: How do you see your influence playing out in your relationships and your wider environment? Do you recognize and value the strength and resilience within you? How do you put these traits into action? Are there places in your life where you ought to assert your influence more intentionally?
What Obelisk Means for You Today
The presence of the Obelisk in your reading today sheds light on how you are perceived by others—as an enduring, influential force to be reckoned with. Perhaps you’ve questioned your value, your impact, or your influence. The Obelisk card assures you that not only are you admired and respected, you are also viewed as an inspiration. Stand tall and continue in your resilience, allowing your actions to reflect the powerful individual you truly are. Most importantly, use your influence wisely, remembering that as an enduring and impressive figure, you possess a significant power to impact and shape the world around you.
