You and I find ourselves in Halloween month and I am concerned with how “witchy” Humboldt has become.
I see you rolling your eyes so let me say some of it is harmless, of course—just kids in costumes walking door to door for candy. Haunted houses are also fun for adults and kids alike.
But there is a serious side to widely accepted witchcraft and new age . It’s not just fringe silliness in our culture any more.
Look at the numbers. Wiccans and Pagans in the United States reached an estimated 1.5 million practitioners, that is more people than the Presbyterian Church (USA), to put it into prospective.
One of my first clues came when a big online marketplace released a report about what people are buying and one of the biggest areas of growth was modern mysticism.
It is booming nationwide, an example being the number of spell books people are buying, surging by six hundred and fifty two percent as interest in witchy, spiritual products continue to grow.
The Purchase Guide celebrating the fact that this witchy stuff is appealing to eager people with extra money to burn and an increasingly large amount of inventory that stores can stock to fulfill the needs. I am talking about Tarot Cards, Altars, Divination through astrology, fortune telling, and Ouiji Boards —
I am sad to report, that this is not how the world works, the reality is very simple: the more you dabble in anything of the occult, the more at risk you become to serious problems. Those troubles target your health, your family, finances and many other areas.
This year in Humboldt County we are seeing Tarot Cards take center stage at different public events.
There are way healthier ways to enjoy the season than opening spiritual gateways in ignorance to what lurks on the other side.
Getting together to form a coven for casting spells to affect others is becoming more common. The act of casting a spell is not a harmless joke, in reality it is entering into bargains with evil spirits to help or hurt other people. The bargain is never worth the price.
Asking spiritual entities to help you accomplish something is upsetting to God, because you are bypassing His Plan for your life. It’s actually a form of cheating, a short cut where the perceived payoff is nothing compared to the risk.
Our mayor of Eureka, she takes way too many pictures around this witchy stuff, and on social media people are really starting to notice, but that is a story for another day.
The evils that are celebrated in Hollywood and modern culture; are the same demonic monsters of the past. And it’s not a light hearted matter. Let’s enjoy Halloween this year without hurting our family friends and neighbors.
