A nuclear-powered underwater drone called Hiel-1 was shown for the first time in a North Korean parade. This was a rather remarkable event in light of the ongoing nuclear tension on the Korean Peninsula.In March of this year, according to the Yonhap news agency, North Korea successfully tested this underwater drone. According to the agency, Hiel-1 spent more than 40 hours underwater, which indicates its high technical characteristics and ability for long underwater missions.This nuclear-powered underwater drone represents a major boost to North Korea’s military capabilities and clearly demonstrates that the North Korean authorities continue to actively develop their nuclear and missile programs despite international sanctions and demands to stop these activities.The appearance of “Hiel-1” at the parade may be a kind of show of force on the part of North Korea and a signal to the international community about the strengthening of the country’s nuclear ambitions.
