Jens Stoltenberg announced this morning that NATO will change the status of the air force mission for the protection of the skies of the Baltic states to “combat.” Previously, he said, there the status was air police.
The so-called air police control the space above the Baltic states and are not considered a military mission. With a combat mandate, NATO fighters will be able to participate in hostilities and be integrated into defense plans.
In addition, the German Defense Minister said that his country intends to deploy an additional 4,000 troops in Lithuania on a long-term basis.
Elsewhere, the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier battle group popped-up this morning in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, within 1000KM of both Syria and Ukraine. When is the last time we had our LARGEST Carrier in the eastern Mediterranean sea?
Seasoned observers are saying NATO is prepping for things to go hot in both Odessa and Belarus, with a sting in Syria for Russia as well.

A carrier in the med is not a big deal, we use to keep 2 carrier battle groups in the med at all times back in the day. But most are too young to ‘member.

For you history buffs, we know that battleships and dreadnaughts became obsolete during WW2 when aircraft carriers came on the scene. I fully expect that aircraft carriers are already basically obsolete, at least when it comes to war between superpowers. There is a reason Russia only has one aircraft carrier and China has only 3 (one of which just does helicopters). The reason is because they don’t need them.
We have carriers because they cost money – LOTS of money – and they can be used to bully second- and third-world countries. But if the U.S. tries to score point on Russia or China, our carrier fleet will quickly go to the bottom of the ocean. All hell is about to break loose, and the U.S. and Great Britain will be on the receiving end. Our “gay” navy is about to meet its dismal end.

I would expect that Iran could hit our carriers with a broadside of missiles that our defense systems couldn’t handle. They could probably lob a couple of hundred missiles at a carrier group if they needed to. Now, everyone says that then we would just nuke them, but if we are probably going to nuke them anyway in the case of WWIII…why not take the American Navy to the bottom of the ocean?

So far, NATO is generating only hot air.
Russia, however, seems to me to hold all the trump cards.
I don’t know, I can’t imagine that 4000 soldiers from Germany could do anything against a great power like Russia.
We will soon see.

No, with us in Germany all planes and pilots are still there. Saw a fighter jet myself the other day, terrible!!!
