Energoatom: Russia continues To Turn The Temporarily Occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP Into A Military Base – The Energotom National Nuclear Power Company State Enterprise claims that Russia has “placed another batch of military equipment, weapons, and explosives in the premises of the turbine department of the 4th power unit of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant”. It also reported, “the storage of military equipment with ammunition, weapons and explosives in other production premises of the ZNPP, in particular in repair and mechanical workshops and on the roofs of power units”.

The statement added, “We will remind you that earlier the occupiers placed such “treasures” in the engine rooms of the first, and later the second power units of the station”.

The Ukrainian agency also said, “We will remind that at the end of July 2022, the Russian military placed heavy military equipment with ammunition, as well as weapons and explosives, in the engine room of power unit No. 1 of the ZANP,” and added, “At the beginning of August 2022, information was received regarding the placement of military equipment also in the engine room of power unit No. 2 of the ZNPP”.

The agency added that, “Also, through unofficial channels, the State Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission receives information about the storage of equipment, weapons and explosives in other production premises of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, including in repair and mechanical workshops and on the roofs of power units”.

“We emphasize once again that in the event of an emergency situation at the ZNPP with a potentially possible release of radioactive substances into the environment, the consequences will be felt not only by Ukraine – they will have a cross-border nature,” the statement added.

The Regulatory Inspectorate called on the international community for a “consolidated and decisive response to the actions of the aggressor country, the application of tough sanctions against Russian nuclear industry enterprises and persons affiliated with them”.
