ALASKAN WATCHMAN: ALASKANS RISING: Protesters to demand justice from Alaska Supreme Court
Momentum is building for what could be the most consequential grassroots Alaska protest in recent memory.
As reported by the Alaska Watchman and precious few others, the constitutional rights of citizen grand juries to investigate corrupt public officials – including judges – has been significantly curtailed thanks to a quiet but significant rule change by the Alaska Supreme Court.
Rather than allowing grand juries wide leeway to investigate, summon and indict nefarious officials and judges, Alaska’s high court has decided to wield unprecedented control over grand jury investigations.
Citizen activists, who want grand juries equipped to exercise their constitutional authority as the last defense against corrupt government are now demanding that the courts rescind their ruling from late last year.
This is not a fringe movement. City councils, Borough Assemblies, Alaska Lawmakers and Community Councils across the state are openly demanding the same.
On Wednesday, March 15, protesters will take to courthouses throughout the state for a peaceful sit-in protest. The stakes are high, for without a fully empowered grand jury, the courts and state bureaucrats can work in unison to cover up unfettered corruption at the highest levels of government.
All Alaskans should take note of what goes down this Wednesday.
