Morgan Freeman, 85, has a commanding presence. In addition to landing roles as God and the president of the United States on the big screen, he is the voice behind dozens of scholarly documentaries. But on Sunday evening, it was not his notable voice or acting talent that caught viewers’ attention — it was his glove.
Academy officers invited the famed actor to introduce a brief video profiling the Warner Brothers. In doing so, the black glove he wore prompted many on Twitter to note their questions and concerns.

Reuters previously reported that in August 2008, Freeman, then 71, “lost control of [his vehicle] near a home he keeps in Charleston, Mississippi.”
The report notes that his injuries were serious and required him to be “airlifted to a Memphis, Tennessee, hospital, 100 miles away.”
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Ben Williams reported: “His vehicle went off the edge of the road and flipped several times.” No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Clay McFerrin, a witness to the accident, reported: “They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle. He was lucid [and] conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”
The accident resulted in nerve damage to Freeman’s right hand. Wearing a compression glove helps to address chronic pain.
According to Hollywood.com, during a 2010 interview with People, Morgan said: “I suffered nerve damage, and it hasn’t gotten better. I can’t move it.”
The compression glove helps to keep the blood flowing. His “elbow-length glove” was evident when Freeman escorted Margot Robbie, 32, to the stage.
Since his accident, Freeman has advocated for nerve damage and fibromyalgia research and the legalization of CBD to address pain issues.
