UK to revoke Moscow Stock Exchange’s recognised status

The UK’s tax authority, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), has today (19 April 2022) announced its intention to revoke the Moscow Stock Exchange’s (MOEX) status as a recognised stock exchange.

This means investors will not be able to access certain UK tax benefits in future when trading securities on MOEX, although existing investments will be protected.

The move comes alongside the unprecedented sanctions the UK Government has placed upon Russia because of their illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Planets line up in sky during once in a thousand year event

Stargazers are being encouraged to look at the sky tonight as four planets align in a rare astrological display.

The planets will be visible to the naked eye, appearing like bright stars in perfect formation, a phenomenon known as the “planetary parade.”

Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will all be visible aligning in the sky for the first time since 947AD.

“This planetary alignment is so special that we will have to wait another thousand years for this to happen again so the year 2492,” Andre Clayden, the director of observations at Springbrook Observatory in Queensland said.

“The most fabulous thing about this is you don’t need to buy expensive equipment.”

The display can be seen from all over the world, with stargazers and astronomers from New Zealand and the United States capturing the moment this morning.

Twitter Board Under More Pressure As Apollo Reportedly Backs Musk Bid

Following reports over the weekend that Thoma Bravo and several other investors had shown an interest in a bid for Twitter after Elon Musk announced his hopes to take it private, WSJ reported Monday that PE giant Apollo has also held discussion about potentially backing a bid for the company.

It’s not clear whether the firm is leaning toward backing Elon Musk’s tender offer, or perhaps another bid for the social media company. WSJ said Apollo’s involvement could entail equity or debt.

Twitter shares moved even higher in after-hours trading after surging during Monday’s session on news of Apollo’s interest, as the PE juggernaut’s involvement now virtually guarantees that a deal will take place, since the Board of Directors can’t say no to everyone (since the further the company’s stock climbs, the more support there would be for an argument that opposing a deal would be a breach of the board’s fiduciary duty).
