⚡️NATO calls on Russia to “deescalate” – as it confirms proposals sent in line with US response to security guarantees
Alliance chief Jens Stoltenberg outlined three areas:
▪️NATO-Russia Relations: Wants to reestablish offices in Brussels and Moscow to promote transparency. Also mentioned creation of civilian hotline.
▪️Ukraine crisis: Willing to listen to Russian concerns. NATO aims to strengthen security in Europe and wants every nation to choose its own arrangements. Russia must withdraw from Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova.
▪️Risk, transparency, arms control: Mutual briefings on exercises, reduce space and cyber threats. Stoltenberg called to recommit to full compliance on chemical and biological weapons. Nuclear weapons discussion.
“NATO is a defensive alliance, we do not seek confrontation,” Stoltenberg added while NATO ramps up forces in Eastern Europe.
