OSTF & Yuendemu Water Problems.
The largest remote Aboriginal community, Yuendumu in Central Australia is rapidly running out of drinking water.
As the quality of what little remains continues to deteriorate, despite the commitment to funds and infrastructure authorities and ‘sovereign’ activist groups who have seemingly taken advantage of them and provided false hope. We could all be doing better at providing the community with an immediate solution to their longstanding problem.
All they require is what could be considered to be the most essential of human rights.
Water.
Yuendumu is 293 kilometres from Alice Springs.
Mereenie H20 is the top listing on google when you search “Alice Springs Water”
For $300 you receive 1000 litres and have kindly offered to store the water tank at his premises.
The tank will need to be purchased separately from landmark / bushmans tanks etc.
Once a week he delivers to Yuendumu Community store through a company called Stanes Transport.
The water company has a forklift to place the water on the truck and the transport company have a Forklift in Yuendumu to take it off at the destination.
Measures will be put in place to help assist with fair water distribution and protection of equipment. The tank will be placed in a central location in town and will be available free to everyone.
Yuendumu lies on the edge of the Tanami Desert, north-west of Alice Springs within the Yuendumu Aboriginal Lands Trust area, on traditional Anmatyerr land 293 kilometres from the closest town Alice Springs.
