US blacklists Chinese biotech institutes accused of Uyghur surveillance – December 17, 2021

The US Commerce Department has restricted exports to China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences and 11 research institutes over biotech work including “purported brain-control weaponry”.

Human rights groups have claimed unprecedented surveillance by Chinese authorities on Muslim Uyghurs using DNA tracing and AI to monitor them.

The blacklisted institutes said to be involved specialize in bioengineering, blood transfusions and toxicology, all of which can in theory “save lives”, but according to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Beijing is using them control its people.
