Intriguing question and one that bears thinking about as the Hilna Slump has “slumped” into the ocean in the past. Kilauea rests on the edge of Mauna Loa, the highest volcano on the planet, thousands of feet above the seafloor. A landslide from Kilauea could possibly create a tsunami… possibly resulting in that said tsunami reaching the coast of North America and Japan. Geologic time is not human time; it’s hard to predict when, we just know it will go “sometime”.
