The UFO was filmed for 9 minutes and 12 seconds. The crew tried several times to contact the UFO using the multi-national, civilian bandwidth designed for this purpose but received NO answer. The Navy Captain stated that the object was a “flat, elongated structure” with “two thermal spotlights like discharges that did not coincide with the axel of motion.” The technician described it as “white with a semi-oval shape on the horizontal axis.”
The incident occurred in 2014, and just now, after a long and thorough investigation, authorities have decided to declassify the footage which shows a UFO performing strange maneuvers while being followed by a helicopter from the Chilean Navy.
The exceptional video of more than 9 minutes has been studied for two years by the Committee for Studies of Aerial Phenomena (CEFAA), the official Chilean body dealing with cases of unidentified flying objects.
The experts who make up this committee –military, technical and academics from various disciplines— have been unable to explain what the object the object is.
General Ricardo Bermúdez, Director of CEFAA during the investigation, told me that “We do not know what it was, but we do know what it was not.” And “what it is not” comprises a long list of conventional explanations.
The incident occurred on November 11, 2014, when a Chilean Navy helicopter (Airbus Cougar AS-532) was on a routine patrol, west of Santiago, flying north.
On board was an experienced naval captain along with a technician who was testing a new infrared camera (Model WESCAM MX-15 HD FLIR), used mainly for “intelligence operations, surveillance and recognition at medium height.”
At 1:52 pm into the patrol, at 4,500 feet and at a speed of 152 mph, the military helicopter crew most likely experienced a close encounter with ‘something’ from another world.
They observed a mysterious object with the naked eye, at a distance of about 35 miles, so they decided to point the infrared camera at it and approach it in order to obtain more information.
As the crew saw they were facing something they could not explain, they contacted two radar stations -one close by on the coast, and the other the main DGAC Control system (Ground Primary Radar) in Santiago— to report the unidentified flying object.
Mysteriously, none of the stations could detect the object on the radar, although both stations clearly picked up an echo of the helicopter.
Air traffic controllers confirmed that there was no traffic, neither military nor civil, in the area and that no other aircraft was allowed to fly in the airspace where the alleged UFO was located.
On the other hand, the radar on board was also not able to detect the object that the crew saw both with the naked eye and through the infrared camera.
Furthermore, according to reports, the pilot tried numerous times to communicate with the UFO, using the multinational, civilian bandwidth designed specifically for his purpose. He received NO reply.
