I have been reading and re-reading this series of books by Tolkein since childhood. I’ve also seen all the different versions of the Hobbit and the Trilogy that has ever been made. There seems to be echos of the fall of Atlantis within the book, but the tales actually are derived in part from ancient Norse stories. Tolkein was attempting to create a mythology for Britain. I would venture to say he created a mythology that is universal.

Tolkien knew the true history of this Planet. In the end the Good Guys win. Those with bad hearts, who lie and cheat who are disloyal and have lived a life of betrayal, will like Sauron and his Orcs disappear forever.
